Global Partnerships Coordinator

With around 3 700 full-time equivalent students, 500 employees and 160 international partner universities, the main subjects of economics and law, and its four departments, the School of Business, Economics and Law offers a unique range. The School also provides unique collaborations with industry and the public sector. The School of Business, Economics and Law is EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA accredited.

The Environment for Development (EfD) Initiative is a capacity building program in environmental economics focusing on research, policy interaction, and academic programs in the Global South. The overall objective of EfD is to support poverty alleviation and sustainable development by building environmental economics capacity in policy making processes.

The EfD Initiative is a unit at the School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg, with a history that stretches back the early 1990’s. EfD is a special unit at the School, and works in close partnership with the Department of Economics, which has around 100 staff and 800 students. The collaboration is particularly strong with the research groups in environmental, behavioral and development economics.

The EfD Initiative has centers hosted by academic institutions in Central America, Chile, China, Colombia, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Nigeria, Sweden, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, the US, and Vietnam.

Job Assignments

EfD is supporting researchers in the Global South to carry out relevant applied research with the aim of bringing about policy impact in terms of reduced poverty and increased sustainability. As part of the EfD Global Hub, the Global Partnerships Coordinator will maintain and expand connections with EfD’s research partners in the Global North and with international organizations. Partnership activities include joint applications for funding for EfDs activities, stimulating new opportunities for research collaborations, and enlisting partners’ participation in capacity development and policy engagement.

A successful Global Partnership Coordinator will have demonstrated skills in building cross-national and cross-cultural relationships, identifying relevant funding opportunities for partnership activities, and participating in multi-stakeholder initiatives. A close and productive collaboration with the management team at the Global Hub and EfD partners, centers and programs is central to the role.

Responsibilities within the position include:

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with international organizations in the field of environment and development.
  • Formalize collaborations with academic partners to support EfD's activities and increase EfD's visibility globally.
  • Prepare strategies, processes and documentation regarding EfD’s partnerships in line with overriding strategies and priorities. This includes ensuring adequate planning and follow-up, as well as assisting in the institutional development of EfD’s partnerships.
  • Lead the work of identifying potential sources of funding (bilateral, multilateral, science councils, international NGOs, foundations, philanthropists), coordinate applications and support the development of new funding proposals for the network together with partners in research, as well as capacity - and institutional development.

Other tasks include general administration, organizing and facilitating virtual and in-person meetings, as well as activity reporting.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • An MSc degree in higher education suitable for the position including Environmental Economics.
  • Experience of international collaborative work on environment and development.
  • Excellent skills in administration, project management, and communication.
  • Excellent proficiency of written and spoken English.
  • Previous work experience in building and maintaining international partnerships and external relations, preferably within the area of environment and climate change.

Employment

The employment as Global Partnerships Coordinator is a permanent position with an extent of 100% of full time, located at Environment for Development (EfD), the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg in Gothenburg, Sweden. The starting date is as soon as possible. Trial appointment may apply for the position.
