Till KI:s doktorander
Just nu finns många frågor kring COVID-19 och coronaviruset SARS-COV-2 samt de konsekvenser som uppstår av karantän, reserestriktioner och risk för smittspridning. Det är viktigt att vi alla följer de rekommendationer som KI har för sina medarbetare och studenter. Informationen på webben uppdateras kontinuerligt och jag uppmanar alla att dagligen informera sig om vad som gäller. Alla gör nu sitt yttersta för att lösa de problem som kan uppstå men samtidigt måste vi acceptera att det inte i alla lägen kommer att finnas direkta svar på alla frågor.

För er som har disputationer inplanerade den närmaste tiden innebär KI:s rekommendationer i dagsläget att dessa kan genomföras som planerat. Ett tips är att om möjligt använda digitala lösningar som Zoom så att åhörare som inte vill/kan komma till disputationen ändå kan delta. Om betygsnämndsledamöter eller opponent inte kan närvara kan det också lösas digitalt, men det måste först godkännas av disputationskommittén och tekniken måste testas i förväg med alla inblandade. Ni som har disputationer planerade längre fram i tiden behöver inte oroa er i dagsläget, utan planera som vanligt, och sen får vi lösa eventuella problem om och när de uppstår.
Vi har uppmanat de som håller i kurser och forskarskolor att vara flexibla kring arbetsformer och examinationsformer så att kurserna kan genomföras som planerat.
Med anledning av begränsade möjligheter för doktorander att genomföra planerade forskningsvistelser har reseperioden/dispositionstiden för KI:s bidrag för forskningsvistelser för doktorander förlängts till december 2021. Detta gäller även för resebidrag för forskningsvistelser som sökts och beviljats i tidigare utlysningar (våren respektive hösten 2019).
Jag utgår ifrån att vi alla hjälps åt för att universitetets verksamhet ska kunna löpa på normalt i så stor utsträckning som möjligt.

Resebidrag för doktorander
|
|
Avseende reserekommendationer med anledning av coronaviruset hänvisas till information på Medarbetarportalen. Om bidrag har sökts för resor som eventuellt måste ställas in ska pengarna betalas tillbaka, men beviljat bidrag kan användas för eventuella kostnader som uppstår i samband med avbokad resa.
KI utlyser resebidrag för forskningsvistelser vid lärosäte eller forskningsinstitution inom och utanför Sverige för doktorander under perioden 1 maj 2020 – 31 december 2021.
Ansökan görs elektroniskt. Formuläret finns tillgänglig i KI Prisma under ansökningsperioden 7 april kl. 10.00 – 21 april 2020 kl. 14.00.

KI och det japanska forskningsinstitutet RIKEN har ett avtal om korttidsvistelse för doktorander där RIKEN, i samarbete med framstående japanska universitet, tar emot doktorander från KI under en period av tre till sex månader. Viss finansiell ersättning ingår.
Ansökan görs direkt till RIKEN i april.
KI utlyser medel för forskningsvistelse vid Tokyos universitet för doktorander för resor med utresedatum mellan 1 maj 2020 och 31 december 2021.
Sista dag för ansökan är 23 april 2020.

Nytt om digitala systemet för individuella studieplaner
|
|
Implementering av det nya digitala systemet för individuella studieplaner, ISP-systemet, fortgår på fyra pilotinstitutioner. Innan systemet implementeras på övriga institutioner ska piloten utvärderas och den nya version av ISP-systemet (”ISP2”) som lanseras i april ska testas. När KI säkerställt att systemet fungerar väl fortsätter implementeringen på övriga institutioner. Tidplan för detta kommer meddelas i god tid.

Forskarutbildningsstatistik 2019
|
|
Totala antalet aktiva doktorander under höstterminen 2019 var 2043 st. Det utfärdades 355 doktorsexamina och 10 licentiatexamina under året, och 292 nya doktorander, varav 66 % kvinnor, antogs.

Handledare till gymnasieelever sökes!
|
|
Välkommen att anmäla ditt intresse för att vara handledare till en forskningsintresserad gymnasieelev sommaren 2020 (22 juni – 24 juli). Doktorander som anmäler sitt intresse förutsätts ha förankrat detta med handledare och forskargruppsledare.
Tips: Att handleda en gymnasieelev kan vara ett utmärkt sätt att uppnå examensmålet för doktorsexamen avseende att bidra till samhällets utveckling och stödja andras lärande.

Disputationskommittén välkomnar doktorander som snart ska disputera till ett seminarium om vad som bör beaktas under disputationsprocessen. Seminariet äger rum onsdagen den 27 maj kl. 16.00 – 17.00 i föreläsningssalen Andreas Vesalius på Berzelius väg 3 i Solna. På seminariet kommer ordförande i Disputationskommittén Mia von Euler att prata om kraven för att disputera, om hur disputationsansökan förbereds och hur man går tillväga för att hitta en lämplig betygsnämnd och opponent.

To KI’s doctoral students
There are currently many questions surrounding COVID-199 and the coronavirus SARS-COV-2 and the consequences of quarantine, travel restrictions and infection risk. It’s vital that everyone follows KI’s recommendations for staff and students. The information is updated continuously and I urge everyone to keep themselves well informed of the latest developments daily. While everyone is doing their utmost to solve the problems that can arise, we must accept that there won’t always be easy answers.

For those of you who plan to defend your thesis in the near future, KI’s current recommendations mean that the public defences may go ahead as planned. One piece of advice is to make use of digital solutions like Zoom so that people who aren’t willing or able to attend can still take part. If examination board members or opponents can’t be present, this can also be solved digitally provided that the approval of the dissertation committee is obtained and the technology is fully tested for all those involved beforehand. Those of you who plan to defend your thesis in the more distant future need not worry at present, so make your plans as normal and we’ll cross any bridges that might appear when we come to them.
We’ve urged everyone holding courses and research schools to adopt a flexible approach to forms of study and examination so that they can continue as planned.
Owing to the limited opportunities for doctoral students to conduct planned research visits, the travelling/utilisation time for KI’s grants for research visits for doctoral students has been extended to 2021. This also applies for travel grants for research visits advertised, applied for and granted in the spring and autumn of 2019.
I take it as given that we’re all prepared to help to ensure that the university can operate as normal to the greatest extent possible.

Travel grants for doctoral students

Please see the staff portal for recommendations concerning the coronavirus. If you have applied for a grant for a trip that have to be cancelled, the money shall be repaid, although the sum granted can be used to cover any costs you may have incurred in cancelling.
KI announces travel grants for research visits for doctoral students at a university or research institution inside and outside Sweden during the period May 2020 – December 2021.

KI and the Japanese research institution RIKEN have an agreement on a short term student exchange programme where RIKEN, in collaboration with several eminent Japanese universities, hosts doctoral students from KI for a period of 3 to 6 months. Some financial support is included.

Latest on digital system for individual study plans
|
|
The implementation of the new digital system for individual study plans (the ISP system) continues at four pilot departments. Before the system is implemented at all other departments, the pilot has to be evaluated and the new ISP version (ISP2), which is planned to be launched in April, has to be tested. The schedule for further implementation will be announced well in advance.

Doctoral education statistics 2019
|
|
The total number of active doctoral students during the autumn semester 2019 was 2043. 355 doctoral degrees and 10 licentiate degrees were issued during 2019. 292 persons were admitted to doctoral education, of which 66 % were women.

Do you want to become a mentor to a high school student?

Welcome to register your interest in becoming a mentor to a research-interested high school student during the summer of 2020 (22 June – 24 July). Doctoral students who register their interest are presumed to have made an agreement with his/her supervisors and research group leader.
Tip: Supervising a high school student can be a great way to achieve the outcome for degree of doctor regarding contributing to social development and supporting the learning of others.

The Dissertation Committee at KI welcomes doctoral students who will soon defend their theses to a seminar about the steps towards a successful thesis defence. The seminar takes place on Wednesday 27 May at 16.00 – 17.00, in lecture hall Andreas Vesalius, Berzelius väg 3, KI Campus Solna.
