Welcoming the new Doctoral Students’ Ombudsperson!
Ninna Oom is the new Doctoral Students’ Ombudsperson (DO) at MF and works closely with the DSA. The DSA welcomes her to the KI family!
Ninna Oom worked as a dancer for ten years, then found her new calling in the academic world through social anthropology. Her studies led to her working as a research assistant at the democracy institute, International IDEA, taking on the mission as an Ecumenical Accompanier in Palestine and Israel. Her work with children and families, nurtured her skills in conflict management.
In her role as the Doctoral Students’ Ombudsperson, Ninna is looking forward to supporting doctoral students at KI, while at the same time collaborating with faculty. She is prepared to listen carefully and assist students going through different circumstances during their doctoral studies. Her door will always be open!
Doctoral education and mental health
The pressure and stress experienced by doctoral students puts them at high risk for mental-health issues. The DSA would like to draw a roadmap that will help those in need, while also creating an environment in which doctoral students can thrive. Give the DSA your input by sharing your experience through this survey. It only takes 8 minutes and will provide the DSA and KI with useful insights in to how to make improvements. Kindly respond by 7 September, 2020. To get a full picture of the situation of the doctoral students at KI, it is essential for you to respond!
Nominations for MF Medals

Preparation for implementation of the digital ISP system at all departments
The new digital system for individual study plans, the ISP system, has been tested and implemented at four departments. During the autumn, the remaining departments will start using the system gradually – one departmental group at a time. This means that all newly admitted doctoral students soon will create digital individual study plans together with their supervisor in the ISP system.
Every department will be contacted later this autumn. Training, mainly digital, will be offered to administrators for doctoral education, directors for doctoral studies, supervisors and doctoral students.

Consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on KI’s doctoral education
Information regarding consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on KI’s doctoral education on the staff portal is updated continuously.
During the autumn semester theoretical doctoral courses will be given online, with a few exceptions, while practical courses/course modules are prioritized to be held at campus. If it is not possible to maintain physical distance, face masks will be distributed. Information is provided by each course leader before the start of the course.
Regarding public defences the following applies until further notice: The doctoral student, opponent, examination board, supervisor and defence chairperson can participate online after informing the Dissertation committee, and the public defence must be accessible to the public via web casts.
