Now that the snow has disappeared and the sun has arrived it is easy to look forward to, and high time to plan for, the coming period. With the new course catalogue being launched all doctoral students thus have the possibility to plan the next stage of their research training. Take the opportunity to discuss with your supervisors what activities should be prioritized, as there are a lot to choose from! "Upgrade your attitude, discipline and skills to match your destiny" is a pertinent quote to reflect upon.

I recently attended (for the first time in my new role as Academic vice president for doctoral education) the national annual meeting of the deans for the medical faculties in Lund, at which they asked me to talk about doctoral education in a global perspective. Following my presentation and the ensuing panel discussion it was quite easy for me to reflect that we provide an excellent opportunity for a well structured doctoral education at KI, if we compare our processes to those of other universities. This is a result of the strategic foresight and efforts of past boards of doctoral education at KI, and provide us with a solid base on which to continue our developmental work. Our challenge now is the full implementation of these best practices at KI, and this will be the focus of the efforts of the Committee for doctoral education (KFU) in the coming period.
