Last week I had the pleasure of placing the doctoral hats on the heads of almost 160 newly graduated doctors during the conferment ceremony at the City Hall. Not only was it fun for me to enact this new role, but especially as I recognized so many graduated students – some from working at CMM, some who I have co-supervised, and some who I served as examination board member for. It is always satisfying to see graduated doctoral students as this is the purpose of a PhD – to produce a new trained scientist. My best wishes to all in their future adventures.

It is equally satisfying to hear that so many KID applications progressed to stage 2 of the application procedure, signifying that provision for the next generation of scientists is already underway. I recently gave a seminar at Flemingsberg about giving and receiving feedback, and we had an engaging discussion. A culture at KI in which the giving and receiving of both positive and also negative feedback is the norm is a personal vision that I work actively to achieve, and I encourage you all to reflect about the opportunities you have to play your part.
The new digital system for individual study plans, the ISP-system, is currently being tested live, and we look forward to its full implementation in the not-so-distant future. This is one of many innovations within doctoral education that the committee is actively addressing in order to ensure the highest quality of doctoral education at KI.
