With summer holidays fast approaching I can reflect that it has been a busy spring term. The Committee for Doctoral Education has been both taking care of usual business as well as brainstorming about future developments.

As has been informed earlier, we can no longer offer study financing through the CSTP programme but alternative initiatives for this target group are being explored in collaboration with the Committee of Higher Education.

Together with the Committee for Research and the KI Post-Doc Association the Committee for Doctoral Education has recognized the need to offer postdoctoral fellows better possibility of academic training. KI's doctoral courses are already open for KI postdocs but the compensation system will be changed as of next year to increase the incentive to admit postdocs to the courses.

While we already encourage doctoral students to ‘visit the world’ through international exchanges the Committee for Doctoral Education has also recognized the value of scientific visits nationally, and the funding opportunity we offer has been extended to national research visits.

Doctoral Education at Karolinska Institutet is already well organized and constantly monitored for quality, but we will continue to strive to improve its content. You all have an important role to play in this process by giving feedback about what is both good and what could need new consideration, so please make your opinions known to your faculty representatives or student representatives. Something to think about when you relax on the beach or in the forest during the coming weeks!

May I take this opportunity to wish you happy holidays and to encourage you to sign up for the new newsletter – Forskarutbildningsnytt is dead – long live Doktorandnytt!

Robert Harris
