A WORD FROM THE UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT
|
New students given priority on campus this autumn
On 29 May, the government announced its decision to allow universities and university colleges to return to more normal teaching this autumn. This is an important and welcome decision that enables us to plan for the start of the term. The decision also means that all activities on the KI campus are to follow the Public Health Agency’s recommendations for reducing COVID-19 transmission.
KI's top priority is to give our students the education they expect and deserve. This autumn, therefore, teaching will be done both on campus and by distance.
Our new students, who will be taking their first steps into academia, will be offered a good start on and priority to our campuses. Those reaching the end of the studies and their final exams will also be given priority to space on campus, in order to quickly deliver healthcare staff to where they’re needed. For this to be possible, and with respect to the Public Health Agency recommendations, much of our theoretical teaching will continue to be done digitally this autumn.
We have had to switch to distance teaching this spring, and we are convinced that KI is now better equipped than ever to run digital courses, a strength we will continue to build through our development as a digital university.
Graduation time for 1,500 students
The spring term will draw to a close on 7 June, and students who have devoted many years to their studies at KI will be receiving their much-coveted degrees. They are all worth a celebration with revelry, song and cheering, and this time we’re arranging digital degree ceremonies; we know this is no substitute for the grandness of a genuine physical ceremony, but given the current pandemic we have to honour their achievements in whatever way we can.
KI’s role in educating and training care workers is particularly important now. This year, the need for skilled personnel is particularly pressing in Swedish hospitals and in society at large. KI’s administrators are currently working on issuing 1,500 degrees so that reinforcements can soon be put to work where they’re needed. A heartfelt thanks to all our teachers, students and staff who have done their utmost this spring to make distance teaching an effective reality.
