Några ord från Universitetsledningen
|

A WORD FROM THE UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT
|
Sustainability work to take off in 2021
During the year, KI has developed a climate strategy that will be decided at the beginning of next year. KI has signed the Climate Framework for Higher Education institutions and undertaken to conduct climate work that is in line with the 1.5 degree goal. KI aims to at least halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Until 2030 KI's goal is to significantly increase education and research efforts related to climate change and health. In order to halve our greenhouse gas emissions until then, we need to have climate-neutral energy use, halve greenhouse gas emissions from travel and sharply reduce greenhouse gas emissions from goods, food, services and waste.
As part of KI's work with the UN's sustainable development goals, it is now possible to apply for funding for research that is permeated by a broad sustainability perspective and contributes to the attainment of the sustainability goals. The application deadline for the funding is January 15. In 2021, an online course will be available that gives more details about how KI can contribute to these goals. It will help you to identify connections to the sustainability goals in your work and to become ambassador for positive global change. One KI for Sustainable Development.
Massive support for imprisoned KI researcher
KI alumnus and researcher Ahmadreza Djalali is facing the imminent threat of execution after almost five years in an Iranian prison. We in the university management are doing all we can to urge the Iranian authorities to stop the execution and release Dr Djalali. The scientific community as well as politicians and the general public all over the world have rallied round in support of Dr Djalali and we sincerely hope that this can help stop the utterly inhuman execution order. Previous news.
Hoping for a happy new year
As the year comes to a close, it has been particularly evident that our university is driven by our engaged students, researchers, teachers, technicians and administrators. The way you have stepped up, adjusted your routines and demonstrated your compassion and concern during this extraordinary year has been impressive.
What we try to do as we go about our daily business – balancing physical distancing with sustaining social intimacy – will impact the coming holiday season too. Many of us will be hindered from meeting family and friends in Sweden and abroad.

We would like to thank all of you for your incredible commitment during the year and wish you all a really restful break over the holiday season. Give each other that extra support that is so desperately needed at this time so that we can take on the new year with renewed vigour, until then we sincerely hope that a COVID-19 vaccine will be widely available and that efforts to plan our post-pandemic lives and improve our preparedness for future challenges will start to increase. Please take part of the President’s greeting.
