A WORD FROM THE UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT
|
Argument against stricter residency criteria heeded
In March, KI wrote to the Ministry of Education about how the introduction of a new language and cultural awareness requirement for permanent residency would affect research and education. The letter raised considerable attention from political and academic quarters. The government listened to our arguments, which shows that our participation in the public debate is effective and influential. KI must continue to actively shed light on the issues that affect us. We hope that the government will revise these new rules for permanent residency and citizenship that are due to come into force on 20 July. Read more about this in the President’s blog (in Swedish).
Preprint – opportunities and challenges after the pandemic
It is becoming increasingly common for researchers to have their results instantly shared prior to peer review by having their manuscript published on open digital platforms. Interest in preprint publication has waxed during the pandemic, driven not least by research financiers requiring the early sharing of results within the scientific community. While this gives researchers prompt feedback on their results, facilitates global collaboration and accelerates the research process, it also means that research that has not been subjected to peer review is spread beyond the scientific community and into the news media. On 3 May, the KI library is holding a seminar to address the pros and cons of this trend at which KI researchers will take part in a panel debate chaired by Emma Frans, senior research specialist at MEB.
KI Sustainability Day on the theme of “building back better”
The focus of the KI Sustainability Day is how we can help to build a more sustainable and fair post-COVID-19 future. Stefan Swartling Peterson, professor of global transformations for health, will be talking on health-related transformation and sustainability efforts from a system perspective.

Stockholm Life Science Conference 2021
|
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the urgent need for improved cross-sector collaboration to tackle the complex challenges before us. It has also raised important questions about the role the Life Science sector can and should play in applying what we have learned, “building back better”, and creating the conditions needed for more sustainable life.
