A WORD FROM THE UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT
|
Academic elections – participate and influence who will lead KI
During the autumn an important election process is ongoing here at KI. The academic elections are a means through which chosen academic representatives have the opportunity to influence the management and development of KI. This week it will be determined who will hold the positions of academic vice presidents and chairs of KI’s three committees from 1 January 2023 and for the next three years. Read more and listen to the hearings that have been held with the candidates.
At the same time as the final leg of the vice president elections, nominations for representatives and teaching representatives to KI’s governing council and committees are ongoing. All members of staff, and students, are allowed to participate in the nominations. By actively nominating suitable candidates you contribute to KI’s continued positive development. Nominate candidates here.
A step towards a more sustainable KI – non-smoking Campus Solna is introduced
The UN Agenda 2030 is a framework that shows how humans, ecology and economy are interconnected. One of the main goals of Agenda 2030 is health and wellbeing – for everyone regardless of age and where in the world you live. As a medical university KI has an important role to play in influencing policy makers and drive the development towards a more sustainable society.
The fact that our own operations should strive to minimise climate and environmental impact is just as important. During the autumn several activities that aim to increase our skills and provide us with better conditions to contribute to this pursuit, both as individuals and as a university, will be conducted.
The campus area in Solna will be non-smoking from the start of the autumn semester. The Swedish Tobacco Law (Law no: 2018:2088) made it illegal to smoke outside in many public places, including outdoor dining areas and in front of entrances to building. Non-smoking outdoor environments are in-line with our Strategy 2030 and KI’s vision, which includes a better health for all. Moreover, a new travel policy that focuses on sustainability is also on the agenda for the autumn, read more about KI’s sustainability work.
A warm welcome to a new and exciting semester at KI
Once again, our campus is buzzing with life and excitement, as an autumn with a more normal academic life, with research, education and collaboration, kicks into gear. On 2 September KI’s welcome ceremony for students will take place. It is an opportunity to get to know KI and find out what student life has to offer.

Hearing of candidates for the position of president is postponed. The hearing of the final candidates to the position of president has been postponed because the Election Committee requires more time to ensure the process and selection of candidates. This will be done promptly. Recruitment of a new KI president.
The procurement process for a Research Information Management System (RIMS) is completed and KI has chosen a supplier. The next step is adapting the RIMS and integrate it with existing KI's systems, and to set up a plan for implementation.

The Higher Education Institutions’ Climate Network arrange a workshop with the theme “the Sustainable Researcher” on 7 October
|
The workshop focuses on the possibilities and challenges academia faces in its ambition to provide society with both top-class education and research and at the same time lower its climate impact. Higher education institutions have an important role to play to contribute, with education and research on sustainability, but must also contribute by lowering the negative climate impact of their own operations. Climate is a prioritised issue for the higher education institutions that are part of the network. Along with SU, SLU, KTH and Umeå university KI is part of the host constellation for the Higher Education Institutions’ Climate Network.”
