Nu närmar sig tiden för en välkommen och välförtjänt sommarledighet med möjlighet till både återhämtning och avkoppling. För egen del ser jag fram emot att umgås med familjen och vistelse i bland annat Stockholms skärgård, vilket för mig betyder både vila och utrymme för nya tankar och idéer. Extra härligt nu i juni är att se alla nyblivna studenter och inte minst våra egna KI-studenter som tagit examen. Grattis!
Innan det är dags för sommarledigt
Regeringen är värd för EU:s ”Life Sciences – the Era of Personalised Medicine” den 26–27 juni under Sveriges ordförandeskap i EU:s ministerråd. Det är förstås extra roligt att regeringen valt att hålla konferensen hos oss på KI. Som värd ska jag, tillsammans med Björn Zoëga, sjukhusdirektör på Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset, välkomna alla inbjudna gäster som representerar sektorns viktigaste aktörer.
Under Almedalsveckan i Visby kommer jag bland annat att delta i en panel med sjukvårdsministern och Socialstyrelsens generaldirektör för att framföra vikten av att få med universitetens perspektiv i planeringen av hälso- och sjukvården. Prorektor Martin Bergö kommer bland annat att delta i ett panelsamtal med SwedenBio och universitetsdirektör Veronika Sundström i ett rundabordssamtal om campusutveckling. Vi kommer att knyta nya kontakter och stärka KI:s nätverk med andra lärosäten, aktörer inom hälso- och sjukvården och life science samt utveckla dialogen med politiska företrädare som påverkar förutsättningarna för vår verksamhet. I fokus inför hösten
Till hösten ser vi fram emot att påbörja en institutionsturné. Vi planerar för att besöka alla institutioner under kommande läsår och återkommer med mer information om denna efter sommaren. Till dess vill jag, Martin och Veronika rikta ett varmt tack till er alla för vad som varit en rolig och alltigenom händelserik och fartfylld termin sedan vi började våra nya uppdrag som rektor, prorektor och universitetsdirektör.

Det är förstås precis så det ska vara på ett universitet med så många drivna medarbetare och studenter som på KI. För varje dag blir vi allt mer imponerade av den kunskap och förmåga som finns här.

Sök medel för att bedriva samverkan inom Network Medicine Institute och Global Alliance
|
|
Styrgruppen för KI Network Medicine Global Alliance (KI NMA) är stolta att presentera 2023 års utlysning av KI NMA Collaborative grants inom nätverksmedicin. Utlysningen är öppen för fakultet, personal och/eller studenter som önskar starta eller utveckla samarbeten inom Network Medicine Institute och Global Alliance. Ansök senast 31 augusti 2023.

Nominera dig själv för deltagande i Global Young Scientists Summit. KI har fått en inbjudan av National Research Foundation (NRF) i Singapore att nominera deltagare till Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) i Singapore 8–12 januari 2024. Utlysningen är öppen för studenter, masterstudenter och doktorander och postdoktorer vid KI. Deadline 21 juni 2023.
KI RIMS börjar ta form. Projektet Systemstöd för forskningsinformation fortsätter implementeringen av KI RIMS och kommer under sommaren bland annat att fokusera på ytterligare teknisk utveckling och att utforma användarstöd.
Köp och sälj labb- och kontorsutrustning inom KI. Nu blir det enklare för dig som medarbetare att annonsera för att köpa, sälja, hyra eller skänka labb- eller kontorsutrustning inom KI.
Årets mottagare av stora silvermedaljen. Årets stora silvermedaljer tilldelas Göran K Hansson och Jan-Inge Henter. Medaljen delas ut till personer som gjort storartade insatser till stöd för KI:s verksamhet.
Aktuella seminarier och event
Gå med KI i Prideparaden lördagen den 5 augusti. KI deltar i samarbete med Medicinska Föreningen och Odontologiska Föreningen och kommer att gå i paraden tillsammans med andra lärosäten i Stockholm under parollen Academic Pride. Paraden startar på Norr Mälarstrand, mer information kommer på ki.se.
Women in Science (WISE) talk & mingle, fredag 1 september. Talare: vicerektor för utbildning Ewa Ehrenborg, ”Empowering Researchers: Unleashing the Pedagogical Potential”.

Utbildning och lärande i en föränderlig värld– välkommen till KI:s lärardag 27 september
|
|
På årets lärardag fokuserar vi på hur vi hanterar omgivningens konstanta förändring men fortfarande kan erbjuda världens främsta utbildningar inom hälso- och sjukvård och medicin.
Lärardagen är en dag för inspiration, kunskapsutbyte och nätverkande för alla involverade i och intresserade av utbildningsfrågor på KI.

Utlysning av medel för delfinansiering av doktorand via samarbetsprogrammet i neurovetenskap mellan KI och National Institutes of Health (NIH)

Doktorander inom programmet bedriver forskarutbildning vid både KI och NIH i USA, och anslaget omfattar cirka 75 procent av lönekostnaden under fyra år.

Ansök om resebidrag med
start i augusti
|
|
Redan i augusti öppnar KI resebidrag och Hirsch resebidrag. I september har vi ytterligare utlysningar som öppnar. Ansökningsperioden för resebidragen är 8–22 augusti. Septemberutlysningarna är öppna 5–19 september.

Nyhetsbrevet tar upp frågor, bevakar beslut och pågående diskussioner i fakultetsnämnden, kommittéerna för forskarutbildning, forskning, utbildning samt andra beslutande organ inom KI. Latest updates from the President
|
|
The time for a welcome and well-deserved summer break is quickly approaching. It’s a welcome period of recuperation and relaxation, and I myself will be spending it with my family at home and in the Stockholm archipelago, which offers the time and space I need to relax and think creatively. What I especially love about June is seeing all these happy school-leavers and our own students celebrating their degrees. Congratulations!
Before it’s time for the summer break
The government is to host the EU’s ”Life Sciences – the Era of Personalised Medicine” seminar on 26–27 June as part of its presidency of the EU Council of Ministers. It is, of course, especially flattering that the government has decided to hold the conference here at KI. As hosts, Björn Zoëga, CEO of Karolinska University Hospital, and I will be welcoming all invited guests representing the sector’s most important actors.
During Almedal week in Visby I will be taking part in a panel with the Minister for Health Care and the Director General of the National Board of Health and Welfare to convey the importance of including the university perspective in healthcare planning. The Vice-President Martin Bergö will be taking part in another panel debate with SwedenBio and the University Director Veronika Sundström in a round-table discussion on campus development. We will also be forging new contacts, strengthening KI’s ties with other higher education institutions and actors in the fields of health care and life science, and advancing the dialogue with the politicians that have influence over our activities. The focus ahead of the autumn
We look forward to starting our departmental tour this autumn. We plan to visit all departments this coming academic year and will be posting further details after the summer. Until then, Martin, Veronika and I would like to thank you all for what has been an altogether joyful and dynamic term since starting as vice-president, university director and president.

This is, of course, to be expected of a university as full of motivated staff and students as KI. We grow more impressed by the day of the knowledge and skills our university possesses.

Apply for a collaborative grant within the field of Network Medicine
|
|
The KI Network Medicine Global Alliance (KI NMA) steering group is pleased to announce the availability of limited competitive funds for grant applications by faculty, staff and/or students to conduct collaborative interactions within the Network Medicine Institute and Global Alliance. Deadline August 31 2023.

Nominate yourself for participation in Global Young Scientists Summit. KI is invited by the National Research Foundation (NRF) in Singapore to nominate participants to the Global Young Scientists Summit in Singapore 8–12 January 2024. The call is open for undergraduate students, master students and doctoral students admitted to Karolinska Institutet as well as postdoctoral scientists at KI. Deadline is 21 June 2023.
KI RIMS is taking shape. The project System support for research information continues the implementation of KI RIMS and will during the summer focus on further technical development and designing user support.
Buy and sell lab and office equipment at KI. Now it is easier for staff to advertise equipment within KI. You can create ads to buy, sell, rent or donate lab or office equipment.
This year’s Grand Silver Medal has been awarded to Göran K Hansson and Jan-Inge Henter. The medal can be awarded to a person who has made tremendous efforts to support the activities of Karolinska Institutet’s mission.
Upcoming seminars and events
Join the Pride Parade Saturday 5 August. Participate in Stockholm Pride together with employees and students to actively show support for equal rights of all people. Join Karolinska Institutet in the Stockholm Pride Parade Saturday 5 August. KI's participation in the Pride Parade is in collaboration with Medicinska Föreningen (MF) and Odontologiska Föreningen (OF), together with other universities in Stockholm under the name Academic Pride. The parade starts at Norr Mälarstrand Saturday 5 August. More info will be found at KI's website.

Education in a changing world– Welcome to Educators Day September 27
|
|
This year's Educators Day focuses on adaptation and coping with the constant changes in the world around us, whilst maintaining the status of being one of the world’s leading providers of education programs in healthcare and medicine.
We welcome teachers and all KI staff involved in education, teaching and learning. Educators Day is in Swedish but some sessions will be in English.

Call for funding for the part-financing of doctoral students via the KI–National Institutes of Health (NIH) neuroscience programme
|
|
Programme doctoral students study at both KI and NIH in the USA, and the grant covers approximately 75 percent of salary costs for four years.
|

Apply for a travel grant – starting already this August.
|
|
KI travel grants and the Hirsch Travel Grant will open for applications in August, followed by an additional round of calls in September. The application period for the first batch of travel grants is 8–22 August, and for the second batch 5–19 September. Make sure to submit your applications in good time.

KI Newsletter is an internal newsletter that briefs all members of staff on current issues of concern to the university as a whole. The newsletter addresses issues and covers the decisions and discussions of KI’s decision-making bodies, including the faculty board and the committees for doctoral education, research and education. All the news can be found on the staff portal or on ki.se. KI Newsletter will be published approximately every three weeks.
