Mastersstudenter fick lyssna till pristagare
|
|
|
|
|
Många av era experiment kommer att misslyckas men det är okej. Till slut kommer ni, genom samarbete med andra, att hitta något som fungerar, sa Michael Kremer till drygt 100 mastersstudenter som samlats för att lyssna på hans föreläsning i Nobel Forum. Det var lärdomar från en besvikelse som bidrog till årets Sveriges Riksbanks pris i ekonomisk vetenskap till Alfred Nobels minne som tilldelades Harvard-professorn tillsammans med Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo, professorer vid Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Inspirerande kick-off för utresande studenter
|
|
Höstterminens kick-off fyllde lokalen Strix med förväntansfulla studenter nominerade för utbytesstudier till våren. Tre studenter som själva varit på utbyte i Chile, Spanien och USA delade med sig av sina erfarenheter. De internationella handläggarna svarade på frågor, påminde om onlinekursen PREPARE, delade ut blanketter och KI-t-shirts. Har du studenter i ditt utbildningsprogram på väg utomlands? Elin skrev KI:s bästa reserapport 2018/2019
|
|
Läsårets bästa reserapport skrevs av läkarstudenten Elin Doyle som studerade vid Makerere University i Uganda våren 2019. "Utbytet gav mig många värdefulla insikter och perspektiv på livet som jag tror är svåra att få på annat sätt än genom att åka iväg på något sånt här!” Elin, utbytesstudent 2019
Andra pris gick till Felicia Stålhand från psykologprogrammet som var på utbyte i Australien och tredje pris gick till biomedicinstudenten Hrista Micheva som gjorde sin utbytesperiod i Singapore.

Stärkt position för KI i nya rankningar
|
|
Karolinska Institutet stärker sin position i två nyligen publicerade rankningar av universitet världen över. Sammantaget ligger KI genomgående högst bland de svenska universiteten i de olika mätningarna och bland de främsta i Europa. Läs mer på nyheter.ki.se

Ny fakta om Stockholm som universitetsstad
|
|
Stockholm står sig väl som universitetsstad i jämförelse med sex andra städer i Europa; Amsterdam, Berlin, Köpenhamn, London, Paris och Zürich. Detta framgår av rapporten Storstadsuniversitet och universitetsstäder – en jämförande studie av sju europeiska städer från Stockholm Science City. Rapport lyfter social snedrekrytering till utlandsstudier
|
|
Studenters socioekonomiska bakgrund avgör om de väljer att studera utomlands. De som studerar utomlands har i högre grad föräldrar med höga inkomster och lång utbildningsbakgrund. Det visar en ny gemensam studie från Centrala Studiestödsnämnden (CSN) och Universitets- och högskolerådet (UHR). Ta del av rapporten Vägen till utlandsstudier på uhr.se.

Hur skapas världsledande universitet för framtidens utmaningar?

Nu går det att se IVA:s (Kungliga Ingenjörsvetenskapsakademien) och Vinnovas seminarium kring vad det är som karakteriserar ett attraktivt universitet och hur de mest innovativa miljöerna kan skapas. Seminariet finns på IVAs webbplats.

Mångfald, rättvisa och inkludering inom högre utbildning i Europa
|
|
European University Association (EUA) har släppt en rapport ”Diversity, equity and inclusion in European higher education institutions”. Rapporten presenterar data från 159 lärosäten i 36 europeiska utbildningssystem som samlats in genom en enkät och uppföljningsintervjuer. Rapporten är en del av INVITED-projektet, ett samarbete mellan EUA och European University Continuing Education Network (eucen), med stöd av European Students 'Union (ESU). Läs mer

SDG 4 som gäller utbildning har hamnat på efterkälken
|
|
Resultaten hittills för att uppnå målen för hållbar utveckling för utbildning (SDG 4) är ”långt under vad som krävs för att uppnå sitt mål 2030”, enligt ett uttalande från styrgruppen för SDG-Education 2030 vid ministermötet om högre utbildning på UNESCO:s konferens i Paris nyligen. Master's students listened to Nobel Laureate
|
|
“If you’re involved in a clinical trial, many of them are going to fail,” Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences Professor Kremer told some 100 master students in Nobel Forum a day after receiving his Nobel prize. “But that’s okay. Eventually you will, through collaboration with others, find something that will be effective.” Lessons from experiments with disappointing results actually helped the Harvard University professor earn this year’s Nobel prize in economics together with Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo, both professors at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Inspiring kickoff for outgoing students
|
|
Almost 90 excited outgoing exchange students, nominated for exchange in the spring, recently filled hall Strix. Three students who have been on exchange themselves in Chile, Spain and the United States shared their experiences. The international student coordinators answered questions, reminded them of the online course PREPARE, handed out forms and KI t-shirts. Do you teach students about to go abroad on exchange? Forward them to "Before the exchange" if they have questions.

Elin wrote KI's best exchange report 2018/2019
|
|
This academic year's best exchange report is written by medical student Elin Doyle who studied at Makerere Universityin Uganda in the spring of 2019."The exchange period gave me many valuable insights and perspectives on life that I think are difficult to get by in any other way!"(red.transl.) Second prize went to Felicia Stålhand from the study programme in psychology who was on exchange in Australia and third prize went to biomedine student Hrista Micheva who spent her exchange period in Singapore.

New facts about Stockholm as a university city

|
As a university city - Stockholm compares well with six other cities in Europe; Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, London, Paris, and Zurich. This is evident from the report "Urban universities and university cities" published by Stockholm Science City (SSC). Read more at the SSC website (in Swedish).

Social imbalance among students when applying for studies abroad
|
|
Students' socio-economic background determines whether they choose to study abroad. Those who study abroad have a higher degree of parents with a high income and a long educational background. This shows a new joint study from The Swedish Board of Student Finance (CSN) and the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR). Diversity, equity and inclusion in European higher education institutions

The European University Association has released a report that presents a broad picture with data from 159 higher education institutions in 36 European systems gathered through a survey and follow-up interviews. It is part of the INVITED project, a cooperation between EUA and the European University Continuing Education Network (eucen), supported by the European Students’ Union (ESU). Läs mer

Progress on education SDG ”falling far short of target”
|

Progress on achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 4 or SDG 4 on education is ”falling far short of what is needed to achieve its target by 2030”, according to a statement by the SDG-Education 2030 Steering Committee distributed at the ministerial meeting on higher education at UNESCO’s 40th General Conference in Paris.
