Nu är anmälan till årets KI-Mayokonferens öppen, den 26:e i ordningen. Beroende på intresse kan man välja olika spår, bla. finns ett för utbildning. Konferensen ges online 9-10 september och sista dag för anmälan är 31 augusti 2020. Mer information om konferensen och anmälan.

Påminnelse - nominera lärare till stipendium inom STINT ”Teaching Sabbatical”

STINT (Stiftelsen för internationalisering av högre utbildning och forskning) inbjuder Karolinska Institutet att nominera upp till tre kandidater till lärarutbyte inom STINT:s program ”Teaching Sabbatical”, varav eventuell tredje kandidat endast erbjuds granskning i mån av plats. Prefekter och programdirektorer/programnämndsordförande kan föreslå kandidater. Läs mer om utlysningen, nomineringsprocess och tidigare deltagare på nyheter.ki.se. Internationell studentmobilitet på grundnivå och avancerad nivå i årsredovisningen från UKÄ

I årets årsredovisning från Universitets- och högskoleämbetet (UKÄ) som presenterades vid ett webbinarium 9 juni presenterades även siffror som relaterar till utbytesverksamhet och internationell studentrekrytering. Bland annat konstaerades att det totala antalet inresande studenter som själva anordnar sina studier i Sverige fortsätter att öka. Även den grupp som betalar studieavgifter ökar sedan flera år. Däremot minskade antalet inresande utbytesstudenter. Även svenska studenter som studerar utomlands minskar. Fler kvinnor än män är inresande såväl som utresande studenter. Inbound clinical exchange studies cancelled  in the fall

Due to the strained situation in the medical and health care as well as clinical study settings, all exchange studies for incoming students on clinical courses and clinical rotations during the fall semester are cancelled. For other courses such as research-oriented projects, the department or programme committee responsible for respective study programme decides on the possibility of offering placements to incoming students. KI advises against the travel of outgoing students who have been nominated for exchange studies by KI and admitted to a foreign institution for their studies abroad for as long as the travel restrictions by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Public Health Agency of Sweden remain. If a course includes a study trip or placement abroad this module cannot be completed during the autumn semester 2020.

Registration for the Annual KI-Mayo Clinic meeting is open

Registration for this year's conference is now open, the 26th annual meeting for the KI-Mayo Clinic collaboration. Depending on your field of interest, you can choose different tracks including one focusing on Education. The conference is given online 9-10 September and the last day for registration is 31 August 2020. More information about the conference and registration.

Reminder -nominate teachers for scholarships within STINT "Teaching Sabbatical"

Karolinska Institutet has been invited by STINT (The Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education) to nominate two candidates and a backup candidate to participate in the exchange programme for teaching staff called Teaching Sabbatical. Heads of departments (prefekt) and Study Programme Chairs/Directors may suggest candidates for the internal nomination process at KI. Registration open for "Internationalisation Days"

International student mobility in the annual report from the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UKÄ)

In this year's annual report from the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ), presented at a webinar on 9 June, figures related also to exchange activities and international student recruitment were presented. Among other things, it was found that the total number of incoming students who themselves organize their studies in Sweden continues to increase. The group that pays tuition fees has also been increasing for several years. In contrast, the number of incoming exchange students decreased. Swedish students studying abroad are also declining. More female than male students are incoming as well as outgoing. Watch the recorded webinar and read the report on UKÄ's page (in Swedish).

Time to move on from the internationalisation strategy?

Consultant Vicky Lewis, specialist in marketing of higher education and internationalisation and working in the Great Britan discusses in an article the development of the universities' approach to internationalisation. There has been a change in terminology and attitude. She believes that there is an opportunity for the next generation of strategies to reflect a subtle shift from an attitude of ‘how can the wider world contribute to our institution’s success?’ towards ‘how can our institution contribute to the success of the wider world? Asia rises, US, UK, Europe decline in new QS rankings

Asian universities have gained ground with record representation in the top 100, while the United States, United Kingdom and other European countries have seen an overall decline in performance in the Quacquarelli Symonds or QS World University Rankings 2021, a trend which Ben Sowter, QS director of research, says “reflects the increasing competitiveness of the global higher education landscape”. Karolinska Institutet is not included in the overall university ranking by QS, which only consists of multi-faculty universities. Congratulations!

This year's graduation ceremony took place digitally, as a result of the government's decision to ban major public gatherings and public events. KI's President writes in his blog: "You are all so incredibly worthy of every conceivable festivity, cheer, song and glam!" For our international students on the global programmes, there was thus greater opportunity for friends and relatives to participate. Watch the recordings of the ceremonies
