Internationalisering inom högre utbildning har inte upphört pga covid-19 - den har bara tagit en ny form

I november deltog KI i ett webbinarium som samordnades av Expertise in Labourt Mobility och CareerProfessor.works. Webbinariet handlade om erfarenheter av att stödja studenters anställningsbarhet i, under och även efter pandemin. Emma Hägg från Internationella kansliet representerade KI och berättade om Internationalisation of the Curriculum (IoC), ett projekt som integrerar internationalisering i utbildningsplanerna. Projektet har bl.a hjälpt utbildningsprogrammen att ta fram verktyg för att stärka studenternas kommunikativa och interkulturella kompetenser och förbereda dem för ett globalt medborgarskap. Kompetenser som arbetsgivare uppskattar och som blivit viktiga i en tid av digitalisering och pandemi. Webbinariet sammanfattades i en blogg där det också finns en länk till inspelningen.

Brexit - vad gäller för våra studenter efter 1 januari 2021

Storbritannien lämnade EU den 31 januari 2020 och övergångsperioden pågår till den 31 december 2020. Brittiska medborgare som börjar arbeta/studera i Sverige efter 1 januari 2021 ska ansöka om uppehållstillstånd som tredjelandsmedborgare. För besök upp till tre månader behövs inget visum, men giltigt pass. För att arbeta/studera i Storbritannien behövs uppehållstillstånd enligt ett nytt poängbaserat migrationssystem. Pandemin slår mot högskolans internationalisering

Under våren utvecklades covid-19 till en pandemi som fick stora konsekvenser. Universitet och högskolor runt om i världen stängde ner sina campus och gick helt eller delvis över till distansundervisning. Det påverkade också internationaliseringen av universitet och högskolor, i synnerhet mobiliteten. Forum för internationalisering sammanställde nyligen sina tankar från en mini-hearing i oktober. Med start 15 februari 2021 erbjuder Euroguidance Sweden den kostnadsfria distanskursen i Ivägledning för dig som arbetar på högskolan; vägledare eller internationell koordinator. Kursens syfte är att bidra till en proaktiv vägledning vid utlandsstudier för att få fler studenter att ta steget ut, post corona. Läs mer och anmäl dig senast 25 januari på UHR:s vägledarsidor.

NeurotechEU - from neurochallenges to neuropotentials

A unique event gathered more than 1,000 participants in front of their computers 16 December. Together with seven other European universities, Karolinska Institutet organized a digital opening of NeurotechEU - The European University of Brain and Technology. Students, teachers, researchers and staff were welcomed to a full day focusing on opportunities and future visions for the new university network in neuroscience and technology, which is part of the EU's European Universities Initiative. Internationalisation in higher education has not stopped due to COVID-19 it has transformed

In November, Karolinska Institutet (KI) participated in a webinar coordinated by Expertise in Labor Mobility and CareerProfessor.works. The webinar was about sharing experiences in supporting students' employability skills in, during and even after the pandemic. Emma Hägg from the International Relations Office represented KI and made a brief presentation of the project on Internationalisation of the Curriculum (IoC). The project has, among other things, together with the study prgorammes in the pilot developed tools to strengthen students' communicative and intercultural skills and prepare them for global citizenship. Skills that employers value and that have become increasingly important in a times of digitalisation and pandemics. The webinar was summarized in a blog where there is a link to the recording.

Brexit - what applies to our students after 1 January 2021

The UK left the EU on 31 January 2020 and the transition period runs until 31 December 2020. British citizens who start working/studying in Sweden after 1 January 2021 must apply for a residence permit as a third-country national. For visits up to 3 months, no visa is required, but a valid passport.To work/study in the UK, a residence permit is required according to a new points-based migration system. Information about Brexit is continuously updated on the Staff Portal.

The pandemic strikes at the universites' internationalisation

During the spring, COVID-19 developed into a pandemic that had major consequences world-wide. Higher education institutions around the world closed down campuses and switched to distance education. It has also affected the internationalisation of HEI, in particular mobility. Forum for Internationalisation recently compiled its thoughts from a mini-hearing in October. Replay on request: Guidance for studies abroad - "Ivägledning"

Starting 15 February 2021, Euroguidance Sweden offers the free distance learning course in guidance for studies abroad for those who work at higher education institutions; study councelors or coordinators. The purpose of the course is to contribute to a proactive guidance in studies abroad to get more students to take the step, post corona. Read more and register no later than 25 January on UHR's pages for councelors (in Swedish).

Sweden is number one in Good Country Index

The Good Country Index (GCI) is a yearly study that examines and measures how nations contribute to the common good of humanity. Of the 149 countries included in the 2020 GCI, Sweden ranks first. Sweden also reached first place in 2016. The Swedish Institute presents the results.

Is virtual exchange a poor relation to study abroad?
