Board of Rectors (BoR) of NeurotechEU partner universities met in Elche, Spain

A KI delegation headed by Vice President Anders Gustafsson attended the 4th Board of Rectors meeting 22-23 November, 2022, at the Miguel Hernández University in Elche, Spain. The main topic of the BoR was phase 2 of NeurotechEU. During the meeting in Elche, the board signed in two new members; the University of Lille, France, and Reykjavik University, Iceland. The rectors also signed a declaration regarding the commitment of NeurotechEU to pursue its long-term strategy for education and research within neurosciences, neurotechnology, and the future of universities. Applying for phase two of the project
|
All partners, old and new, are now involved in the phase two application and a core writing group has been formed. As the commission talks about continuity and simplicity this also influences the process for the application and much inspiration from the former application is built upon in the new. The second call will cover 4 years and 14,4 million Euros. Ki is involved in the writing process in many central parts, among others Consortium management and decision-making. The deadline for the full application is 31 January 2023.

EUA maps European Universities Initiative challenges
|
As the pilot phase of the European Universities Initiative comes to an end, the European University Association (EUA) has taken stock of efforts, obstacles and challenges published in "The European Universities Initiative and system level reforms". The challenges are mainly at national level or system level within the 30 higher education institutions that are participating in the first pilot, and they need to be resolved urgently as the initiative is to expand. European Universities Initiative: Driving societal impact

What is it like to introduce and lead the initiative within a university, a member of one of the 44 EUI alliances? University College Cork (UCC) in Ireland is a partner in UNIC, the European University of Post-Industrial Cities. In a novel approach, UNIC is a partnership of 10 universities and their cities, formally bound by a memorandum of understanding between each university and its municipality, underpinning intensive engagement and partnership. Event in Romania focusing on women in science
|
An upcoming NeurotechEU event 7-8 March 2022 will take place in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The meeting is on site but with hybrid elements. International Women’s Day will be celebrated paying tribute to women in science. This activity will be arranged by the NeurotechEU student council in collaboration with UMF, Cluj.

Rector's meeting (BoR) in Stockholm in May

The fifth board of rectors meeting will be hosted by KI 31 May to 1 June. The project team is currently planning the programme. Parallel and partly joint, there will be an event, a so-called hackathon, relating to neurochallenges, to which both students on different levels and researchers/lecturers from all NeurotechEU partners will be invited. A hackathon, is a is an event where interdisciplinary teams engage in rapid and collaborative problemsolving over a relatively short period of time using methods like Design Thinking. The hackathon is linked to WP3 where KI is lead and is planned in collaboration with OpenLab.

Lifelong learning - for supervisors
|
NeurotechEU Lifelong Learning center, through KI, offers a series of lectures for doctoral supervisors within the alliance this coming spring. The objective of this training programme is to support and inspire PhD supervisors in the development of teaching and leadership skills and in promoting the use of best practices in the development of their PhD students. The seven lectures will be given by Bob Harris, Ana Borovecki and Juha Nieminen from end February to the beginning of April. Link to pdf.

Save the date for the NeurotechEU meeting for all KI staff and students already involved or interested in NeurotechEU 17 January 10-13 in the faculty Club at Biomedicium.
