ESKILSTUNA INTERMODAL TERMINAL

LKW Walter is expanding at Eskilstuna Intermodal terminal with its own domestic rail service to and from Trelleborg

LKW Walter is expanding its operations at Eskilstuna Intermodal terminal
by running four fully loaded trains a week between Trelleborg and Eskilstuna

LKW Walter is a privately owned Austrian company that offers deliveries of full trailers.

"We are contributing to functional and sustainable supply chains in Europe. With more than 13,000 cranable LKW Walter trailers, we are continually increasing our load capacity through combined rail and sea traffic, which ensures sustainable and environmentally-friendly transport solutions", says Günter Wiesinger, intermodal manager at LKW Walter.

The company is now expanding its operations at the intermodal terminal in Eskilstuna by moving 300 trailers a week over from road to rail. There is potential to increase the capacity in the future with more departures per week when there is high demand. From Eskilstuna, the loads from Europe access all of Central Sweden, with goods from Sweden transported onwards in Europe-wide intermodal networks. The number of road kilometres is reduced, with the tractor unit only needed for the section between the rail terminal and the purchaser.

"Demand for sustainable transportation is increasing, and the initiative will substantially reduce road transports, and thus carbon dioxide emissions. Together with our partners and customers, we want to contribute to another sustainable solution and reduce Co2 emissions for transport between Sweden's and Europe's industrial and commercial hubs. It is estimated that carbon dioxide emissions will decrease by 9,000 tonnes per year solely through this connection," Günter Wiesinger says.

LKW Walter rents trains on the Eskilstuna – Trelleborg section from TX Logistik, Swedish subsidiary of a German-Italian company.

"We started running trains on the section in 2011. It has been increasing all the time. There has been a dramatic upswing since 2018," reports Patrik Åström, sales manager at TX.

TX started with two round trips a week. Today there are eleven, four of which are for LKW Walter.

ESKILSTUNA LOGISTICS PARK

Bockasjö is under way with a third property in the logistics park

The fast-growing e-commerce company GardenStore will be the third tenant
at Bockasjö AB, and is set to occupy 30,000 square metres in 2023.
"Eskilstuna logistics park has an exceptional location," says CEO Joakim Hedin
at Bockasjö.

Covid, patios, outdoor furniture ordered online. That is the background to GardenStore growing from zero to
30,000 square metres in three years. The new warehouse is climate-compatible with solar cells on the roof and completion in one year.

"The move to a modern, sustainable logistics facility at Eskilstuna Logistics Park will create the conditions for our future expansion,” says Valentin Berg, CEO of GardenStore Nordic AB.

E-commerce is the thing for the Borås-based company, Bockasjö. First Sportamore, then Apoteket, and after GardenStore there are contracts for further empty plots. The property company owns a total of 80,000 square metres in Eskilstuna Logistics Park.

We welcome GardenStore to Eskilstuna Logistics Park. This establishment will generate a large number of important new jobs”, says David Hofmann, CEO of Eskilstuna Logistik och Etablering AB

Maja Åskag

"I hope to qualify as a senior for the
European Championships in Munich"

Maja Åskag from Eskilstuna took four gold medals last year in the European and World Athletics U20 Championships.
She was designated Newcomer of the Year in Sweden at the Swedish Sports Awards. Maja competes for Råby-Rekarne, the local
athletics club, along with a number of excellent athletes who are sponsored by Eskilstuna Logistik och Etablering, Eskilstuna Energi och Miljö and Eskilstuna Kommunfastigheter.

"It went indescribably well last summer! Moreover, Covid meant that there were two major championships in the same year."

So says Maja, who is now a full-time athlete, and who, thanks to a range of sponsorships, can devote herself to training full-time. Her medals have mainly come in long jump and triple jump, but she also competes in shot put, running and relay from 60 metres indoors to 400 metres.

"I am above all a jumper, but it benefits me to train in running as well, and it is good to compete in events where there aren't the same demands on me," she says.

Maja Åskag is 20 years old and completes mainly as a junior. The Nordic Championships await in summer 2022, and the first steps towards the future.

"I am hoping to qualify as a senior for the European Championships in Munich, after which there are numerous championships to train for.
