Welcome new Executive Board members of

Cancer Research KI

Associate Professor

Simon Ekman

Dept. of Oncology & Pathology

Associate Professor

Päivi Östling

Dept. of Oncology & Pathology

Professor

Qian Pan Hammarström

Dept. of Biosciences & Nutrition

A warm welcome to the new Cancer Research KI Executive Board members!

Simon Ekman's group focuses on lung cancer and includes clinical, translational, and preclinical studies. They aim to find new treatment targets and biomarkers as therapy resistance is a common clinical issue when treating lung cancer patients. They also research brain metastasis in lung cancer within a patient group with a poor prognosis (photo: Andreas Andersson).

Päivi Östling has more than 10 years of research experience in the field of precision cancer medicine research. She is one of the Scientific Leads of Precision Medicine and has been responsible for establishing a functional precision medicine platform at SciLifeLab. Together with Olli Kallioniemi, she leads a group focusing on individualized drug profiling including multi-omics in acute myeloid leukemia, ovarian and bladder cancer as well as pediatric tumors.

Qian Pan Hammarström's group studies human B cells in health and disease, with a focus on primary immunodeficiency and B cell malignancy. Currently, she is also leading an EU consortium on antibody therapy for COVID-19.

Seminars and Workshops

Seminar series on industry-academia collaboration

Cancer Research KI strives to accelerate innovation and industrial collaborations to translate the research findings into a new treatments strategy.

Cancer research KI launches a seminar series that aims to promote and facilitate industrial-academia collaborations. During the first meeting, there will be a chance to learn about reasons and motivation to start this collaboration, the process of working with industry, and an opportunity to mingle.

As the seminar series will continue please let us know if you have suggestions on topics that we should address by sending your ideas to cancerresearchki@ki.se. For all the details and a programme for the next seminar please visit our website.

Please register by sending an e-mail to cancerresearchKI@ki.se by Monday 17th of January

Date: 20 January 2022 | Location: Inghesalen, Tomtebodavägen 18a, 171 65, Solna Campus and Zoom (a link is provided after the registration).

Cancer Research KI retreat at Djurönäset 23rd-24th May 2022

The annual Cancer Research KI retreat is open for registration! Please remember to send your abstract to cancerresearchki@ki.se (all abstract submission details follow after the registration).

The XIXth Cancer Research KI Retreat will take place May 23-24, 2022 at Djurönäset in the Stockholm archipelago. The retreat is open for all KI/KUH students, post-docs, researchers, principal investigators, and healthcare professionals with an interest in cancer research and in the current and future activities of Cancer Research KI.

We hope to see you there!

Deadline for registration: February 21, 2022

Videos from "En dag för cancerforskning" are available on the CRKI webiste

Cancer Research KI organised "En dag för cancerforskning" during spring semester this year. The meeting was digital, and it was dedicated for the general public to present and talk about cutting-edge cancer research. Now, it is possible to relive this day and listen to outstanding presentations as the videos are updated on the CRKI website. The recording and subtitles are in Swedish.

Best wishes for a joyful Holiday & a Happy New Year

Cancer Research KI wishes you all the best for Christmas and Happy New Year 2022. We hope that the New Year brings many more cancer research discoveries, effective treatments, and new collaborations. See you in 2022!
