A few words from the Head of Department

Dear LIME colleagues,

First, I would like to, belatedly, welcome everyone back to the autumn semester! It has been quite an intense start with LIME celebrations, retreat for all managers, courses starting, grant application dead-lines and more.

I felt that the LIME 20-year celebration was an important occasion to look back, reflect on the present and become enthusiastic about the future through the contributions by the people “on stage” and everyone present.

Thanks to all from LIME and KI that took part in the celebrations or contributed to the programme – including current and former university presidents, university directors, vice-presidents, deans and programme directors as well as students and alumni! One main reflection I have from the various deliberations and discussions is that we all at LIME can conclude that what we do is deeply needed and that we have all reason to be proud of the value the department contributes with to the overall KI vision!

In particular I want to thank all those that planned and executed the event – without their creativity and hard work the event would not have become what it did. So I extend my and LIME:s gratitude to Charlotte “Rossi” Rossland, Therese Wahlström, Marie Lind and all other fantastic people who helped as well as to our wonderful conferenciers Marie Dahlberg and Per Palmgren.

September 7-8 there was a very productive and valuable retreat for all managers at LIME. Numerous strategically important issues were discussed and will be followed by decisions and actions during the fall.

The Research Support Office (RSO), Unit for Bioentrepreneurship (UBE, LIME) and KI Innovations asks for our input to better understand how KI’s community is working towards achieving societal impact from research, education, work, and other activities. Please help by answering the KI Impact Survey 2022. It takes approx 5 minutes.

Over the next months work will continue with all the constructive suggestions that came out of our retreat in the spring – I very much look forward to that process!

Yours, Carl Johan

Carl Johan Sundberg
Head of the Department

WISE - Women In Science and Education

One of the investments to strengthen KI as a pioneering research university is to consolidate qualification opportunities for women. In that spirit, KI has launched a network for female teachers and researchers: Women in Science and Education at KI, WISE-KI. WISE is open to all junior and senior scientists and teachers at KI who identify as women. The WISE network will be dynamic and solution oriented; it organizes events where career achievement and best practice are at the forefront. This is achieved by offering access to female role models in academia, by creating discussion forums that highlight and resolve career challenges, as well as by providing industry insight.

Ingrid Svensson, Sara Brorström & Pernilla Gluch (2022) Introducing strategic measures in public facilities management organizations: external and internal institutional work, Public Management Review. Video abstract.

Main finding: Using a frame for data analysis based on institutional work, findings show that, when introducing strategic measures in public organizations, public officials worked to place their organizations in a new position within the institutional field, through something we label: positioning work.
Conclusion: With its overall focus on both managerial and non-managerial roles during implementation of new practices that lead to institutional change, the research offers insights into the literature on Iinstitutional work by discussing aspects of distributed agency and how different types of institutional work relate to each other, which expands a prior focus on the efforts of managers.

...that there is a ping pong table at LIME (and people who play)? It´s in the room Insikten.
...that there are people at LIME who meet and knit?
...that the room RuFFA is open for all kind of acitivities, such as art and music, aswell as sports and mindfulness?
...that British sailors were called “limeys” because of the number of limes they would eat (they took limes with them on long voyages to prevent a vitamin C deficiency from occurring).
