2021 has started with some positive news! The US re-enters the Paris agreement and in addition, a study shows an increasing willingness for climate action in the US, China, and Sweden. At EfD we step up our efforts to present relevant research and to interact with policymakers.

Attitudes and willingness to pay for climate policies have changed in the United States, China, and Sweden over the last ten years. A study conducted by EfD researchers shows that all three countries exhibit an increased willingness to pay for climate mitigation.

EfD aims for increased interaction with policymakers and we welcome EfD Policy Engagement Director Daniel Slunge to our team. He has extensive experience from international work on environmental and health issues. He is an economist with a passion for sustainable development and has combined his research and teaching with policy engagement.

EfD Uganda hosted a meeting at Makerere University in December. High-level policymakers, researchers, and representatives from the private sector, over 60 people in all, participated physically and online. The discussions concerned the environmental problems facing the great Lake Victoria.

A recent study conducted in Bolivia showed that the risk of falling seriously ill in COVID-19 is eight times higher in the lowest strata of the population, where you find the poorest people. There are several factors that contribute to this.

Call for papers on Inequality and the Environment

The Journal of Environmental Economics and Management (JEEM) has released a call for papers for a Special Issue on “Inequality and the Environment". They seek innovative empirical and theoretical contributions on the links between environmental policy and economic inequality. Submissions are welcome until February 28, 2021. Call for papers on Energy Poverty
|
The journal Energy Economics seeks to attract studies that examine various aspects of energy poverty, especially in developing countries and in warmer climates. They also encourage submissions that focus on the effectiveness of energy poverty policies.
The deadline for submissions is January 30th, 2021.
