Program for early career researchers kicks off
|
Twenty promising EfD researchers who received their PhDs within the last five years are now embarking on the new EfD Early Career Fellowship Program. The program aims to help them develop their skills in conducting high-quality and policy-relevant research.

EfD Uganda organized a training-of-trainers workshop as the final activity for the pioneer group av participants in the Inclusive Green Economy (IGE) program, the so-called IGE Fellows of 2021. This was an occasion to share lessons learned and the conclusions from the National Policy Reviews with the new cohort, the IGE Fellows of 2022.

During the XV World Forestry Congress held in Seoul, Korea, at the beginning of May, a session called Harnessing the Communication Effect highlighted the role of communication in the forestry and environment sectors. The session aimed at answering the question How can we be brave in our communication about forests to create greater impact and reach broader audiences?

Joining forces for climate change adaptation in the agricultural energy sector

The peer-learning project “Policy-research partnerships for pragmatic evaluation of climate change adaptation and development models in the ag-energy sector” was launched on April 6th in an online meeting. Read more about this exciting project that involves several EfD centers, the SETI collaborative program, RFF, and the Shell Foundation (UK Charity).

How can climate information improve adaptive capacity in Namibia?

Climate forecasting is essential for improved decision-making and risk mitigation in arid and semiarid regions where farm production is a dominant livelihood. However, the access and use of climate information are low. EfD researchers investigate the impact of climate information on adaptive capacity and food security in Namibia.

Ethiopia conducted a national consultative workshop on April 11-12, 2022 to prepare for the upcoming United Nations Stockholm+50 conference. The workshop aimed to showcase Ethiopia’s stride, in the past 50 years, in integrating the environment into its development agenda; identifying challenges and opportunities; reaching out to partners, and expanding partnerships to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs.

Older people and women have more to gain from internal migrations than other groups. This is one of many interesting results in a study by EfD researchers Franklin Amuakwa-Mensah, Carl-Johan Lagerkvist and their co-author Assem Abu Hatab.

Financial incentives don't crowd out existing positive conservation behavior

EfD Researchers Lina Moros, María Alejandro Vélez, Alexander Pfaff, and their co-author Daniela Quintero conclude in their publication Ending eco-services payments does not crowd out lab-in-the-field conservation that the effects of payment for ecosystem services (PES) does not reduce conservation in the long run. Events/ EfD Annual Meeting
|
From 2007 until 2019 the EfD Annual Meeting has evolved to become the largest and most vibrant conference in the Global South on the application of environmental and resource economics.
After two years of virtual meetings, we are now back to a real-life meeting. This time the conference is hosted by the EfD center at Makerere University which has promised us a beautiful venue on the shores of Lake Victoria near Kampala, Uganda.
The conference will follow our format of scientific and policy keynotes combined with thematic parallel sessions and workshops. The deadline for full paper submissions is June 1, 2022.
Training sessions and collaborative program meetings) will be organized before and after the Annual Meeting.

The 2022 Gothenburg International Research Workshop on Sustainable Economic Growth and Decent Work for All
|
The 2022 Gothenburg International Research Workshop on Sustainable Economic Growth and Decent Work for All will take place on August 25-26, 2022. Researchers from around the world are invited to present, discuss and network on issues related to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8 in Agenda 2030.
The deadline for abstracts is June 15, 2022.

SETI's 2022 Annual Workshop
|
The Seventh Annual Workshop of the Sustainable Energy Transitions Initiative (SETI) will take place on June 23-24, 2022, virtually, and will include an additional date to meet in person in Uganda, at the EfD Annual Meeting (September 22-26, 2022).
The deadline for submitting papers is extended to May 31, 2022.

Annual Agriculture, Nutrition and Health (ANH) Academy Week
|
The ANH Academy Week brings together the community of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers working at the intersection of agriculture, food systems, nutrition, and health. The objective of the ANH Academy Week is to foster knowledge exchange, innovation, and learning around interdisciplinary ANH research.
The event is online, Monday 20 June - Thursday 30 June 2022. Registration is free.

The Society for Benefit-Cost Analysis (SBCA) is an international group of practitioners, academics, and others who are working to improve the theory and application of the tools of benefit-cost analysis (BCA). A call for proposals to address climate change and natural hazard risk across Africa and Asia pacific.
CLARE is a partnership between the FCDO and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada. This call is seeking applications for research on new knowledge, data and tools and capacity focused on tackling real-world barriers to adapting to climate change and managing risks from natural hazards.
