Newsletter from EfD
March 2024
|
Dear friends of EfD,
Welcome to yet another sprawling newsletter from the global EfD network. It’s difficult to choose from the 16 news items presented below – see for yourselves. Even so, I have to highlight yet another important contribution by Professor Thomas Sterner and colleagues to the valuation of ecosystem services, this time in Science. We can also note that three of the EfD centers are “on fire” with multiple news items: Uganda has launched several initiatives to increase interaction between academia and policy, similarly the center in Vietnam has active policy dialogues on both carbon markets and glass recycling and in Chile an EfD researcher is now a member of the National Council for Sustainability and Climate Change. Please read all about it below!

Ceremonial and subsistence water
|
Water for cultural and religious purposes, referred to as ceremonial and subsistence (C&S) use, is a distinctive feature of many Indigenous and other communities. Whether this constitutes a legitimate claim for water for an American Indian Tribe in the United States was litigated in the context of a trial to determine the federal government’s obligation to reserve water for Indian Tribes whom it had settled on reservations during the 19th century.
