Newsletter from EfD

August 2022

Dear friend of Environment for Development,

The academic year has started with the kind of intensity that the Decade of Action begs of us. In this newsletter, you will find updates on a series of meetings that have been held around the EfD network to disseminate past research, involve policymakers in agricultural adaptation, design an app for water community organizations, increase female labor participation and design a research agenda for a low-carbon transition in the Global South. Still, this is only EfD warming up to our Annual Meeting that is being held in Uganda, September 22-26. You will also find excellent examples of EfD research that highlight the food crisis in Nigeria, green infrastructure in Costa Rica, how female participation in the Indian workforce leads to better food security, and our new survey in East Africa on the acceptability of green reforms.

Please enjoy and share the latest news and research from the EfD network!

The Inclusive Green Economy program is in its second year, with the second cohort of participants. Civil servants from Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda participate in the program. One activity has been to conduct a survey of 5,000 respondents among the general population in those five countries. Each country team has then arranged a workshop with stakeholders from the relevant sectors, let them respond to the same survey, and then discuss the outcomes. The results were indeed interesting. Read the reports from the workshops in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda!
