The Legion of Honor is the highest French order of merit, both military and civil, established by Napoleon Bonaparte and retained by all later French governments. This is a great recognition from the French government, not only for Thomas Sterner's work but for the importance of a transition to a fossil-free future.

A new special issue of the journal World Development examines, in nine articles by EfD researchers, the most important trend in forest policy over the past decades: the shift in governance authority from national to local levels. It's titled “Decentralized forest management: Experimental and quasi-experimental evidence,” and includes studies from Africa, Latin America, and Asia. It's edited by EfD researchers Allen Blackman and Randall Bluffstone, who also provide an introductory overview of this great material. This is a must-read for everyone who is interested in forestry!
