|
Farmers in West Africa practice many climate change adaptation strategies numbering about 91. However, only a few of the strategies are cost effective. When trying to cope with the impact of climate change, the farmers should focus more on planting of trees, use of fertilizers, use of resistant varieties, mixed farming, crop diversification and mulching. This study was conducted by EfD researchers NwaJesus Anthony Onyekuru, Chukwuma Ume, Chukwemeka Onyia, Eric C. Eboh, and co-authors and published in Environment, Development and Sustainability. |
Evidence shows that climate finance is not reaching those who need it most. Despite the significant climate risks faced by women and girls, only 2.3% of climate finance intends to principally support gender equality. Low-carbon transitions must be designed with a proper understanding of gender inequalities. Most energy models used for policy analysis are too complex for non-experts. EfD researcher Santiago Arango-Aramburo and co-authors propose an energy model and demonstrate how non-experts can use it to understand and evaluate renewable energy policies. The model has a game-like user interface, known as a microworld,This microworld has been used in workshops with specialists and graduate and undergraduate students. The tool and the complementary material are freely available online.
