Newsletter from EfD
May 2023
|
Dear friends of EfD,
Welcome to the May issue of our newsletter. We remind you to submit papers to the EfD Annual Meeting in Ghana, on October 5 – 9. Our annual meeting has become the largest and most dynamic conference on the application of environmental economics in the Global South. We invite researchers and partners from within and without EfD to submit papers or just use the occasion to get on top of the latest research findings and applications. Welcome!
The newsletter is of course also ripe with stories from our centers, in this case from Chile, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Vietnam. We also have updates from four of our programs – the Natural Capital, Sustainable Energy, Women in Environmental Economics, and Inclusive Green Economy programs. Last but not least, a couple of nice publications are featured that focus on waste, mental health, and micro-hydro.
Enjoy!
Gunnar Köhlin, Director

Overfishing or the misuse of open marine resources can cause them to collapse. To cope with this problem, many governments restrict access to fishing grounds. However, corrupt practices hamper the benefits of that method. EfD Chile researcher Juan Rosas, and co-author José Antonio Carrillo-Viramontes, analyzed the circumstances under which collusion between artisanal organizations and external agents takes place, altering the sustainable equilibrium of the system.
