We are delighted to announce that EfD's 16th Annual Meeting will take place on September 22-26 in Uganda. And we will finally get to meet in person! Don't forget to mark your calendars and check our website for updates on the event!

In this newsletter, you will also read about the latest research and policy engagement carried out by our global network of EfD centers - all to support the sustainable management of the environment for development.

EfD Annual Meeting

EfD's Annual Meeting will take place in Uganda on September 22-26!

Annual Meeting 2022

We are happy to announce that the EfD Annual Meeting will be held in Uganda on September 22 – 26, 2022.
After two years of virtual meetings, we are now back to a real-life meeting. This time the conference is hosted by the EfD center at Makerere University.
The conference will offer scientific and policy keynote presentations combined with thematic parallel sessions and workshops. The deadline for full paper submissions is July 1, 2022.
Additional EfD events (training sessions and collaborative program meetings) will be organized before and after the Annual Meeting.
Don't forget to mark your calendars and keep checking our website for updated news on the event!

Stakeholders call for new fishery law in Nigeria

Stakeholders including fishermen, fish farmers, researchers, and regulators from government agencies have signed a communique requesting that Nigeria’s national assembly reviews the Nigerian Fisheries Act and policies to accommodate new changes that will improve fish production in Nigeria. The goal is a sustainable fisheries industry. Read more about this initiative!

Call for women researchers to participate in WinEED visits to EfD centers

EfD Central America

EfD Central America helps Water Community Organizations interact with policymakers

In Costa Rica, Water Community Organizations (WCO) play a key role in providing water for about 1,5 million people, which represents nearly 30% of the population. To support the WCOs, and strengthen their interaction, EfD Central America organized a meeting with representatives from the seven provinces of Costa Rica, and with the water supply unions, leagues, and federations. Food Policy special issue: Applying behavioral science to agriculture, food, and agri-environmental policy 

This special issue of Food Policy focuses on behavioral tools applied to actors across the entire agricultural supply chain on issues related to agri-environmental policy in both developed and developing countries.
They invite submissions of original research papers, synthesis reviews, meta-analysis studies, and perspective essays that would help both academics and policymakers understand the opportunities and limitations of behavioral science-inspired tools to design better agricultural, food and agri-environmental policy.

Work at EfD! Researcher on the transition to a low-carbon economy in the Global South

You will have a dual role as researcher and coordinator of an EfD program with the aim of developing a research agenda to support low-carbon transitions in the Global South. The project is funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). You will conduct high-quality research in environmental economics, climate economics, and development economics, with a special focus on issues related to poverty and sustainability in low- and middle-income countries. As research coordinator, you will be responsible for project management and administration, ensuring adequate planning and coordination, following up on deliverables, reporting on progress, organizing virtual and physical meetings, and supporting communication efforts.
