5S introduced by LK Armatur

5S is a component of the Japanese lean production philosophy, and is the foundation for all continuous improvement work. This simple and efficient tool can be used when organisations wish to improve workplace maintenance and eliminate various forms of wastefulness in the work environment that may cause mistakes and personal injury.

In January, we here at LK Armatur began our 5S journey. Operations development manager Joacim Aulin, who has 14 years of experience working with 5S, will be leading the entire project.

There are a number of advantages to implementing 5S. The greatest of these is the safety aspect, given that we continuously work hard to ensure that we enjoy a secure work environment. Chaos can easily ensue in busy times but a disorganised workplace steals both time and patience, which plays a big part when it comes to safety. By cleaning up and organising, you also clear up space in the workplace. Another element of this work is to engage your colleagues and utilise their full potential. Everyone can play a part and steer the development of their own workplace; after all, who are better qualified for it than the people who actually work there?

It is estimated that the full implementation of 5S will take 24 months. LK sees this as a sound investment of time and energy that will be returned in the form of a safer, more pleasant workplace. Once everything is in place, it will benefit not only LK and our employees, but will also enable a better service offering to our customers.

5S stands for:

Sort
Systematise
Shine
Standardise
Sustain/self-discipline
