result-oriented partnerships

12 Swedish municipalities together with an international partner have been granted funds to conduct municipal partnerships focusing on one or more of ICLD’s four core areas – equality, participation, transparency, and accountability.

Research - an integral part of ICLD

Research is an integral part of the operation of ICLD. In a couple of interviews, we feature some of ICLD Advisory Group members who are researchers in the fields of local democracy and decentralisation. Växjö invigorates its local democracy through water project with An Giang

Växjö municipality and An Giang province in Vietnam have inspired each other to new solutions through a partnership concerning water management.
Their cooperation has led to improvements in the democratic processes and made staff in the water management departments reflect on how they contribute to local democracy.

ICLD Mentors Supporting experts in their field: Gender


One of the vital components of the international training programmes is the presence of experienced mentors who are familiar with the specific conditions in the countries in question. And who are also experts in the thematic field of the programme, Gender mainstreaming, Local Financing, Political Leadership or Holistic Urban Planning to mention some.

ICLD is monitoring the devlopment of Covid19 closely, and following the updates from Public Health Agency of Sweden, WHO, and recommendations from the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
